Hey I am trying to put Windows 7 on my linux machine running Ubuntu 11.04. I formatted my spare drive (1TB) to NTFS with two partitions of 500 GB each. When I ran the Installation CD and went to select a drive to install it to. I received an error message saying that the setup could not detect any NTFS formatted drives. Not sure why this is because there is one.
I have installed and working Windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.04.
I discovered that I do not need all this space that I have assigned to my D:/ drive in Windows and now would like to include it as a partition in Ubuntu.
A friend told me that if I have first installed Windows and then Ubuntu, then the order of the disks does not favor such a move and that I must just format it and auto-mount it in Ubuntu.
Alright, I've installed Ubuntu 11.10 on my PC which used to have win 7 on my SSD. However SSD(ocz) was defective so I took it out and it's in the process of being replaced. So I decided to install Ubuntu on my 2 TB(ata? drive) which was named Trinity via my previous windows installation. I have about 370 GB worth of valuable data on it so I have no desire to format the entire drive.
Hi,
I'm new to fedora but not completly new to linux.
Now i wanted to copy some folders _from_ my NTFS partitioned drive to a folder in a XFS partitioned on another drive. I marked them and clicked with the mouse and dragged the icons to the folder in the other drive.
Nothing -seeable- happens.
I am trying to install ubuntu on a pc already running windows7 os. I have got 3 volumes on my hard disk. 1st C drive is where windows is installed, second drive A is where I want to install ubuntu and 3rd is used for backup.
When I run installation from my USB it gives my options 1.
I had FOUR NTFS partitions on my drive. One on which Windows 7 was installed (C Drive) and the other contained my data (D Drive) (E Drive) (F drive) .
During Ubuntu installation I chose to install Ubuntu and erase my existing OS. When Ubuntu was installed, I was shocked to see no partition. All my data was gone.
I've been running Windows 7 and FC16 for over a year without a problem.
sda1 is a corporate image that helps reinstall Windows
sda2 is Windows 7 C drive
sda3 is Windows 7 D drive
sda5 is FC16
sda6 is Swap
sda7 is an NTFS filesystem
My C drive under Windows 7 filled up and there wasn't enough extraneous stuff I could delete any more, so I was faced with re-partitioning the drive.
I want to know is there any possible (and simple) way to delete my Windows partitions and extend my Ubuntu partitions.
I have 1 HDD 700 GB:
sda1 primary 100MB NTFS (Windows boot partition)
sda2 primary 100GB NTFS (Windows 7 OS)
sda3 primary 500GB NTFS (Windows data files)
sda4 extended partition 98GB:
sda6 ext4 94GB (Ubuntu 12.04)
sda5 swap 4GB
My actual boot partition is sda1
I want do dele
Hello All
I have an external 1TB NTFS drive in a case which I seldom use. I have an HP Widows 7 with a 500GB drive which is about 65% filled. I was going to clone the old 500GB to the new 1TB drive, install it into the HP. and install Ubuntu 13.04 as a Dual Boot.
Here's my question:
