I have two folders in /media that I created previously, /media/usb1 and /media/usb2. Tried to create a 3rd folder today and I'm getting permission denied, using both sudo and then logged in as root.

I have an external fat32 hard drive. It already has some files on it. Now, I mounted it and it shows the owner to be root. fine. but when I change the permissions, it does not seem to change it. I am not able able to access the directories, even as root !.

It's owned by 'nobody' and I'm wondering if it could explain difficulty I'm having in shutting down.

I am facing an unusual problem.

I'm trying to change my login manager to SLiM and the theme I want for my login screen is archlinux-simplyblack:

I do multi-platform development and use cifs for that purpose, this filesystem is located on an XP box but I use cifs to remote-mount and compile the linux portions:

I checked the permission too before I asked.$ ls -la total 12 drwxr-xr-x 2 shengchieh shengchieh 4096 Jan 17 10:05 . drwxr-xr-x 22 shengchieh shengchieh 4096 Jan 16 21:14 .. -rwxr-xr-x 1 shengchieh shengchieh 118 Jan 17 10:05 pkillfirefox.shAlso all the directory higher than where I am has drwxr-xr-x permission.  Also I (and not root) am the owner of the scriptand directories.Is there some
