I'm having trouble playing mkv files in Kaffeine, or any other player on openSUSE, which generally doesn't come with this type of codec.
I've already installed a mkv codec that I found in the openSUSE repository.
Hi everyone,
I am currently using openSuse 11.3, it's really great. One thing, however, I've noticed is that some online radio stations that I used to listen to from other Linux distros or even Windows, are not being loaded in openSuse for some reason. I am not sure what is the cause of this.
Hi, I am new to Linux OS and openSUSE. However,I have been a PC user for many years, so I am using some of that knowledge to help me work with openSUSE. Now, on to my issue. I have a PC that has openSUSE 11.2 that is dual booted with Windows XP MCE. About a week ago, it installed well and everything seem to run fine. However, I have no sound, and nothing is muted.
I wonder if there is a list of codecs/file formats which are considered illegal or questionable in the USA?
I want to find out
What file formats or codecs are these questionable ones?
What facillitates playing these formats?
What alternatives are there?
Why is it "not legal"?
Upgraded from 10.04 to 12.04.
I loved 10.04's ability to be able to play a .mp3 file by simply hovering the mouse over the song's icon in the file browser.

These are freely available on the web, so no worries on sharing In this earlier thread, you guys helped me add the commonly used codecs. I ran the apt-get lines again to make sure I had them all installed, but on

I was able to play those DV video files afterwards.
VLC can not play that video, it hisses and crackle and sputters.
Finally found files VLC can not play. This non playing caused me some angst trying to figure out what to do as I have ripped a lot of DV video from some home movies.
they play avi files good.
but only video from wmv file, no sound. Totem gives a dialogue : lack of windows media 9 codec. Kmplayer plays it as business as usual, except for no sound.
I'm going to use the package "devede" to burn some wmv files to a dvd. Maybe I have to make sure the wmv file could not played right?
Fluendo has announced Fluendo Media Center, a €40 package which integrates the company's DVD player for Linux and other codecs into a single application.
