Firefox mobile is heading to Android, slowly. The mobile version of Firefox's browser, called Fennec, is still only available for the Windows Mobile and Maemo platform, a soon-to-be redundant operating system only used on a couple of Nokia devices.

Mozilla announced today the availability of its Firefox for Android browser for a slew of new devices including the HTC Status, HTC ChaCha, Samsung Galaxy Ace, Motorola Fire XT, LG Optimus Q and many more. Before today, Mozilla’s mobile browser only supported devices utilizing an ARMv7 processor.

Firefox may not be the browser of choice for a lot of Android users out there, but that may change soon if what Mozilla claims turns out to be true. Mozilla claims that due to their JavaScript compiler called IonMonkey, performance increases of up to 25 percent can be experienced on their Firefox Android browser.
