file-roller alternatives?

http://crunchbang.org – file-roller must be my least favourite application in #!.  It does what it says on the tin, creating and extracting just about any archive you can imagine, but it lacks any ability to be configured to use a particular backend, or to change settings like compression levels.  I just can't like it.I heard xarchiver was being considered for future versions, but it simply doesn't work as well for me.  Lacking some format support and basically full of bugs.  Or perhaps just so finicky to use that it looks like bugs?Is there anything else even remotely useful in Linux-la (HowTos)
