I have something weird here.
Skype has launched Skype Connect 1.0 - previously available in beta as Skype for SIP - a service that enables a business' IP PBX or unified comms systems to make and receive calls via Skype.
I must say I'm pretty noob in Linux, and I'm trying to install Skype, using this
manual. I successfully download the package using comand
wget -O skype-install.deb http://www.skype.com/go/getskype-linux-deb-64
but when I try to install the package I get some errors about dependencies.
root@102:~# dpkg -i skype-install.deb

I finally got the repos enabled and installed skype, but when I run skype I get this error
bash: /usr/bin/skype: /lib/ld-linux.so.2: bad ELF interpreter: No such file or directory
I installed skype-wrapper because the Skype default icon looks awful with the rest of the unity bar (and I like the integration), and uninstalled the sni-qt package to remove the normal Skype icon.
Now when I launch Skype (through skype-wrapper) there are two icons for Skype in the launcher: the top one is the skype-wrapper icon, with the unity quicklists and the mail count, etc.
I am trying to run skype on F17_x64
I am not quite there yet although I am pretty sure this is doable...
First things first:
wget http://www.skype.com/go/getskype-linux-beta-static
The file downloaded was skype_static-4.0.0.7.tar.bz2 .
Extracted the "skype" binary and copied it in /usr/bin
sounds/, lang/ and avatars/ were copied into newly created /usr/share/skype directory

I am using Xubuntu 12.10. I have installed the latest Skype. But the weird thing is that Skype takes exclusive control of the audio in the system.
1. When I am using Skype, I cannot play any other audio in system.
2. When I am using any audio in the system, Skype audio doesn't work.
3. When someone is calling me in skype, Skype crashes when I receive it.
Hey, I have started noticing some heat increments with skype launched. Found out that skype is using over 80% cpu and makes some heat. Anyone here found an work-around how to lower CPU consumption with skype ?
Running 12.10 with 3.6.8 and skype 4.1.
Like a noob, i tried installing skype numerous ways, non of them worked. Today i notice there is skype on Ubuntu software centre, when i try install i get this error message:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
skype: Depends: skype-bin but it is not going to be installed
