Ok I am a new wine user so bare with me guys, I have a windows PC that is sharing files to my linux machine. I can see the stuff that I shared from my network directory but In wine I want to be able to use those exe's that are on the share with Wine. Theres on option in Wine to map network drives but Im not entirely too clear on how to go about using that. Someone please help.
The version 1.2 of the well know wine is now released and you can download it from the next link. If you don't know what wine is, let me explain a little and short. wine is a program (wine is not emulator) that allow you to run windows programs. Some of the new features from wine after 2 years without a stable release.
I'm new to ubuntu, formally windows 8 disgusted and have switched my other computer over to ubuntu only. The only thing I want to run on wine is to download DB Weave (and possibly for netflix later). I'm very confused with the wine install choices.
A question I have fielded more then a couple times in the Wine section of the Ubuntu Forums is
What is the difference between commercial Wine products and vanilla Wine?
There are three main commercial Wine products: Bordeaux, Cedega, and Crossover. There are a few distinct differences between the commercial Wine products and the FOSS Wine.
I read the all of the information I could find on wine, and it wasn't very much (having issues with the search feature of the forum).
I understand that the idea behind it is to make it so that you can install windows programs, and have them run on ubuntu.
We have been changed how wine is built. From now on, we have wine, wine-mono and wine-gecko.
Possible to only install wine and wine-mono, or wine and wine-gecko.
If you do conary updateall in fl:2-devel label, you will need to install wine-mono and wine-gecko to get those.
I wanna wine a windows .exe program.
first time i wine it ,i get an error message :"mfc42.dll cant be found"
then i install it with winetricks
i wine it again, this time i get
"fixme:toolhelp:CreateToolhelp32Snapshot Unimplemented: heap list snapshot"
I just dont know what it means , can anybody help ?
In my previous version, in Natty I think, I installed MS Office and some other windows software via wine. They have cluttered a lot of places including the Open with and other mime related operations.
