Hi, I have a USB stick with 64-bit F17 Live on it. This works fine (in text mode, anyway, with 'nomodeset' option) on my older 2011 iMac (ATI graphics). I'm not using an overlay or a persistent home image.
On the new iMac (nVidia graphics), I get the grub screen. When I pick an option, the menu disappears and it just hangs.
I used to have a great multi-boot system yet now on boot all I see is error: no such device: 383d0317-ed15-43f2-a5fe-96cd5b4d67b4. Grub rescue> The system had just been upgraded to Fed 17 via DVD, and the grub menu listed the current one plus the older kernels, and a Windows option (choosing that offered the Win7/XP windows boot menu, both of which were fine).
I'm trying to get some things going in a Virtualbox testbay on my iMac before deploying on some other machines, but I keep running into an issue. First I would start off saying that I've used this version of virtualbox on this iMac for a long while and everything ran nice until recently. I created a new virtual machine, gave it better specs than I've used previously and I boot up 12.04.2 64bit.
Hey , I have ubuntu installed on my iMac model 8,1 and it randomly goes to sleep, sometimes when it gets out of sleep mode the screen goes light blue but you can still see the desktop apps and everything and it doesn't go back to normal untill I restart my computer. So my question is, is this because my graphics card isn't supperted.
Im lookin' for the solution to dual booting my Windows7 with OpenSolaris11Express....and then? What is the problem?
I would make it by A live USB....and then?
Strange problem. Ubuntu works fine on my iMac if I choose previous kernals and use kernal 2.6.....25. (Don't know exact string).
The newest kernal that was installed after my upgrade was 2.6.....32. I try booting into that kernal and it just goes to black screen after about 20 seconds. About 50% of the time I get a boot loader, and then black.
Hi all,I was successfully installation with GRUB-EFI on iMac (https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=149657)But now I could not continue after GRUB.I have no ways to upload my picture because I'm using Mac OSX's recovery media to post/show this forum. My display shows up some progresses and randomly appears yellow or blue blocks and lines and Fleezes. After poweroff by hands, same issu
Whenever I try to install Ubuntu, I get a fatal error that reads:
'Executing'grub-install /dev/sda' failed. This is a fatal error.'
Its the same as this, but my graphics appear to be running fine.
Also, I'm a complete novice at this and really need simple instructions to understand what I'm doing. I've tried booting from a LiveCD and a USB stick.
I am considering purchasing an iMac 27-inch for my web development business; of course, linux-compatibility is a major issue for me. I know that Linux has been run successfully on various models of the iMac, including the 27 inch version, but of late it seems that the Linux graphic driver universe is going through a tough time.
