I upgraded some old systems before from fedora 4 and fedora 6 to fedora 9 and 10 using the cds, When I booted the cds of fedora 9 and 10 it detected the old installed fedora and offered to upgrade it, It sounds nice, I chose to upgrade and every thing went fine, The old fedora 4 and 6 became 9 and 10.
I have on machine currently running Fedora 17. When I tried to use pre-upgrade to upgrade to Fedora 17 from Fedora 15 it failed because of space problems. So I installed Fedora 17 from a DVD as a fresh install.
In its current configuration, it has 43 GB available in /, 352 MB in /boot and 141 GB in /home.
Now that Fedora 18, aka Spherical Cow, has been released, users of Fedora 17 will likely be gearing up to upgrade. Before this latest release, upgrading an installation of Fedora requires a procedure that’s not very elegant.
With Fedora 18, the recommended upgrade tool is called FedUp (FEDora UPgrade).

I'm a beginner to Linux. I installed Fedora v.7 a couple months back on a Dell desktop (dual boot with WinXP). I am trying to upgrade to the latest version now and having some problems. I tried to upgrade to Fedora v 10 using yum update, but get the following error: "Cannot find a valid baseurl for repo: anaconda-upgrade-install".

My notebook and desktop run perfectly on dual systems: Win7 and fedora 17. As I follow the installation procedure suggested by the redhat / earlier fedora system, both my machines have the separated and cleared partitions; for windows, boot, swap and boot partition.
I am slowly getting used to Fedora and Linux, but I'm still not an expert and I am not very conversant in disk partitioning and such things, and I think this is what my problem is.
I used FedUp to upgrade to F18 as per online instructions and performed the suggested post-upgrade procedures too.

I want to install Samba 4.0 for testing purpose in my pc.Could you please guide me that which old version of Samba 4 will be compatible. I know that current version is Fedora 17 but due to my old hardware the latest release of fedora could not installed.
kindly let me know any old Fedora version which will be compatible with samba 4.0.

I've been a windows user for long time and ditched it for fedora about 15 months ago...
fedora 15 has been pretty smooth, fast and safe for me...i love it totally!
when fedora 16 was released, i couldn't manage to get time and upgrade my system and then i decided to upgrade when fedora 17 is released...ending the support for fedora 15.
