Hello everybody ,
I am really glad to see that MATE is included in fc18 future plans.
I just installed Alpha version but I cannot find a way to install mate. I installed all the mate-* packages but still no option for MATE.
Is MATE included in the Alpha version?
Well, I did it, I got MATE (aka Gnome 2...) on Fedora. Here's how to get it:
Code:
sudo yum groupinstall mate-desktop
That's it! Just log out, select MATE in your desktop environments, and you now have a close representation of Gnome 2.
Hello @ all
My question is, cause ic can't fetch and install compiz from the mate-desktop-fedora-new-application-testing repository (as i did a few days before), where is it gone?
Recently i decided to try MATE. I had XFCE installed. So I ran:
Code:
yum install @mate-desktop
I did not like it. Anyway, I though
Code:
yum remove @mate-desktop
would uninstall JUST mate. But I realized mate and xfce share some dependencies. My desktop crashed.
I need help for uninstall MATE from any way and keep XFCE.
after doing a
sudo apt-get --purge remove mate-panel mate-applets
and a
sudo apt-get --purge remove mate-panel mate-applets
for trying to get rid of a trayicon issue on my system, the mate window manager seems to be not working anymore.
after login, i still get a gui, but only a terminal is running in there.
also no panel and menus are available.
for this terminal and any other application

Hi!
Knowing that this a is a Arch forum (Manjaro depends on Arch):
After having installed Manjaro 0.86 Mate 1.6 I tried to update the system.
Because Manjaro Mate comes with both BT managers (Mate and blueman) and BT does not work in many Mate editions, I deleted Mate BT manger and wanted to update.
How can I remove default desktop environment (xfce in this situation) after installing mate, and make mate default and stand-alone DE in fedora 18?
I think that tends to be a feature of some tiling window managers. For example i3 also does this. But I also have not used mate extensively enough to give you a definitive answer about this. Of course, you could always just use a different window manager in place of mate's.
