I want to hide boot messages at startup in debian. I saw this link and it was so useful as it said i do this to /etc/init.d/rcS:
exec /etc/init.d/rc S >/dev/null 2>&1
and the result was what I want. but still there are some messages. How can I hide them?
starting portmap daemon ... Already running ..
starting NFS common utilities: statd.
starting enhanced syslogd: rsyslogd.

I just built a new computer and I am having trouble installing Fedora from a live USB and a live CD. When I boot, everything starts normally and says loading before it would normally get to the graphical boot. Then I get a black screen with text and says "Dracut: starting plymouth daemon" and the installation hangs forever.
I have a feeling this has to do with my graphics card?
Hi,
I have fedora 17 installed for a while. It was working fine till yesterday when I installed some updates and reboot the system. Now it stalls at boot.
I was using Lubuntu although other DE were installed.
I was curious (like the cat) to see what xmonad is, installed it in synaptic and now my system is unable to load.

So I downloaded the installer ISO and as per wiki wrote it onto an USB drive. My PC recognizes the USB perfectly and the Arch installer menu is shown. But the problem is that on my HP Mini 5102 the USB drive hangs my netbook on the HP boot logo (can't even enter the BIOS)...if the drive is out the machine works normally.
I'm trying to do a fresh install of Mythbuntu 12.04.
This post is intended to be an archive on my efforts to run Fedora on the Apple Mac Mini. I will primarily be working with the 2010 Mac Mini with Nvidia graphics (MacMini4,1) and the 2011 Mac Mini with ATI graphics (MacMini5,2).
The good news is that the installation of Fedora 18 on MacMini5,2 is quite painless.
Hi allm,
About 2 or 3 upgrades ago (on Fedora 17) my machine starting hanging on boot, just after quitting the plymouth splash screen.
It looks like the Xserver is trying to start ,but gets stuck: an X cursor appears, and flickers, but I am left just staring at the boot log. I dont get a log in screen.
If I log into a terminal and do a 'ps -eaf | grep Xorg' then I can see a xorg process.
