Hi all. I have been searching for weeks and have not found a solution.
No hdmi sound at all on desktop, youtube, or xbmc.
I have sound in mythtv no problem.
I've done an exhaustive search for a solution. Any links or information regarding how to get HDMI sound to work will be greatly appreciated.

I'm trying to get HDMI audio output from a ION system but I'm running out of ideas.
After the install process (12.10 server, xorg, alsa, nvidia-current) I immediately un-muted channels in alsamixer and run
xbmc@htpc:~$ aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 0: ALC662 rev1 Analog [ALC662 rev1 Analog]
Subdevices: 1/1

I have installed Ubuntu 9.04 on my Lenovo Y530 in a separate partition along with Vista.
Now the problem is that there is no sound if I am using Ubuntu, Vista is fine. I checked many websites but no solution helped.
root@lenovo:/media/Music/Hindi# aplay Zara\ Sa.mp3
Playing raw data 'Zara Sa.mp3' : Unsigned 8 bit, Rate 8000 Hz, Mono
I installed Ubuntu 12.04 and the onboard sound works.
aplay -l **** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: ALC280 Analog [ALC280 Analog] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
