Hi,
I'm trying to set up dual Dell Ultrasharp u2311h (23 inch, 1920x1080) monitors with my ubuntu 12.04 partition. I'm running a Radeon 7970HD graphics card with the fglrx drivers (from the ati website), and for some reason my xorg.conf file keeps messing up. Every time I back up xorg.conf, delete it and reboot it seems to works fine.
I was going to install catalyst on f18 to take it out for a run. Went to backup my xorg, conf but my system doesn't have one, is this usual for f18?
Code:
[sayth@renshawfamily ~]$ cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.backup-`date +%F`
cp: cannot stat /etc/X11/xorg.conf: No such file or directory
It hasn't affected my system on f18 which is currently as stable as a mountain goat.
I get no errors on Xorg.0.log but I can't get KDE to get up.When I run /etc/rc.d/kdm start, it looks like X is started but all I see in tty/7 is a black screen with a static cursor at the upper left corner. These are my xorg.conf and Xorg.0.log files: (I had to generate an xorg.conf file since autodetection wasn't working)xorg.conf:Section "ServerLayout" Identifier&
I have a headless server running the latest Ubuntu Server 12.10. It does not have any GUI at all.
Problem:
I am having the same issue that others are having which is that when you boot or reboot without a monitor (headless) the computer does not boot. The solution presented to others was to edit their xorg.conf file.
I am using a netbook with a 10.1 inch screen and resolution 1024x600. I am running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and when using the neural network toolbox from Matlab a window is off the screen and I cannot access the buttons. I found this answer on SuperUser link, which describes two approaches.
Initially X does not use xorg.conf. So suppose I have a certain monitor installed with the system, then X will be set in accordance to that monitor.
If I change the monitor after a reboot, what problems will I face?...will X work properly? How does X handle this situation?
I've been getting some weird, nasty X crashes the last two weeks or so...
Hi all,
First time poster.
Today I went through the process of upgrading to 11 from 10 via the prompt which flashed up on my screen as a system update.
This all seemed to go though fine, everything looked as if it downloaded ok and it proceeded to install seemingly without any problems.
I have been refurbishing these computers for over a year now and would like to help anyone who needs help with these machines.
Here is an xorg.conf that works flawlessly with Dell Latitude 640s & 600s.
Code:
# xorg.conf (X.Org X Window System server configuration file)

# This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using
