Hi guysI installed gvfs-smb to access samba shares in Nautilus. Now there is an icon in the "Browse Network" section of Nautilus called "Windows Network". This link works sporadically. Sometimes I open it and no workgroups are present. Sometimes I'll see a workgroup but no shares are available.
Ok, I'm going more than a little nuts here...
Here's what's happening. I have one PC (morpheus) on which I've chosen to share a couple of folders in the home directory. The folders show the "Shared" icon in them and are chmod 777'd. I can access them by going to Dolphin -> Network -> Samba Shares -> Workgroup -> Morpheus -> Foldername ...
I have one Windows 7 machine and when on Fedora 17 64bit (default install, nothing changed) I cannot browse the network shares. After installing Samba and Samba-Client, I am able to see the Windows workgroups (MSHOME and WORKGROUP). I can browse MSHOME which houses a XP machine with no shares. I cannot browse WORKGROUP, which contains the Windows 7 Machine.
Okay I apologize for talking about one problem I posted a few months back, got swamped with other more important projects at the office.
First, Samba is working just fine among all the computers. Obviously I have the server static. Issue, the Server it'self cannot access the Network Folder at all!?
I will click the Browse Network, sometimes it wont even let me in.
I have ubuntu 12.04 installed at the moment, and it doesn't seem to be detecting my HTC Kaiser phone, which is running w****** professional 6. The funny thing is, when i plug it in via a USB port, its detected by the 'Network' icon on the top panel. So i decided to check out 'Browse Network' on Nautilus, and i see 'W******* Network'. It doesnt let me open that either.
I am new to xfce (xubuntu 11.10) and was surprised at the featureless, unfriendly Thunar is used instead of Nautilus. Apparently Thunar cannot browse network shares (and many other things) the way Nautilus can. I have read and tried numerous work-arounds but none work very well.
I have a Synology NAS with a "Windows" share configured. When I click "Browse Network" => "Windows Network" in Nautilus, all I get is:
"Unable to mount location
Failed to retrieve share list from server
"
Note: This has worked 100% fine before, and I HAVEN'T CHANGED ANYTHING.
Any ideas?
I've read several threads regarding the setup and use of Samba, and Samba has always been working fine until recently. I didn't change anything, but for some reason, it appears that Samba only resolves hosts on the default "Workgroup" workgroup. However, the /etc/samba/smb.conf file is setup to use a different workgroup.
I have a windows server that I operate through Hamachi to share files and my printer. I had everything working before I updated the server OS, but it was more luck than skill.
Before I updated the OS, I was able to view all of my shares by going to Browse Network -> Windows Network -> "My Server Name". Everything was there.
