Hello ! I am gsynk. Just installed #! ....Just love the simplicity of this distro. No eye candy, pure core and raw linux , jst the way it should be..I am a Software Engineer by profession, working mostly with sql server and visual studio. As communication becomes more Web-centric, text editors become more essential writing tools. Blocks of text get tweaked with HTML codes to provide a more graphical appearance. So good text editors are those with many of the same features found in word processors, only without the added formatting and graphic components.
Most of us know about portable apps for Windows, and how useful they can be sometimes. It’s great to simply have your favorite programs and add-ons with you, especially in the case of browsers. However, portable Linux apps have been nonexistent, at least until now.
There are lot of text editors available for Ubuntu / Linux Mint. gedit is the default text editor for GNOME based distributions, it’s very easy to use, you can start using it (effectively) – in minutes.
One of the best productivity tools I had when I used Microsoft Windows was a collection of portable applications. I missed those tools when I migrated to Linux. Now several open source projects could make portable apps available to mainstream Linux users. Three websites are trying to create that functionality. But the efforts might need more work before they all perform well out of the box.
All..
I'm not totally new to computers, linux etc etc so I have a good understanding of how things work.
I used to have a qnap NAS with Piwigo, Zenphoto and a bunch of other apps. It all worked very well but I found that it was a little to slow (qnap TS212) a great little box but a little slow.
Hello. I'm a computer engineering college student from Arkansas.I've tried a ton of distros in the past 10 or so years, and some I've come to appreciate, but Crunchbang is so much better than the rest. I like the minimalism and default applications. I feel like #! is one of the few distros that is listening to what users want.
Hello to all the #! users out there in #! land!!! I am very happy with my new favorite distro.I have been using linux for +- 10 years now, and more recently, looking for a simple and "lite" linux for my netbook. Installed #! on the morning of LFNW (Linuxfest Northwest), went to a talk on #!
There are lot of Dock Apps available for GNU/Linux distributions such as Ubuntu, Linux Mint 13. Some of the most popular dock Apps are – GLX-Dock (Cairo Dock with OpenGL), Docky and AWN (Avant Window Navigator).
Dock App is not just an eye candy app, it also makes lot of things much easier (such as multiple window/app management, easy shortcuts for complex and repetitive tasks etc).
