I just received an x1 carbon in the mail and have been trying to install ubuntu on it today. Whenever I try to boot from my usb image of ubuntu-12.04.1-desktop-amd64, I get a message saying "image failed to verify with **ACCESS DENIED**..". I tried disabling UEFI boot in bios with no luck.
My usb image works fine on my pc and my other laptop. What is going on with my thinkpad?
PS.
I'm trying to properly install Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS 64-bit PC (AMD64) with the alternate install CD ".iso" on a lenovo Thinkpad X220.
Default Hard Disk (with a pre-installed version of Windows 7) has been replaced with a brand new SSD.
The UEFI BIOS of the lenovo Thinkpad X220 is set to "UEFI Boot only" & "USB UEFI BIOS Support" is enabled (I'm using an external USB DVD reader to perform Ubunt

I was forced to use the uefi boot option to run the usb, it would not boot the standard way and I tried using both unetbootin and
So I just recently built a new computer and I have Windows 8 running on it, bios is set to UEFI, and Secure Boot is off. Windows 8 runs perfectly on it. Well with the new version of Ubuntu out, I thought I would give it a try in a dual boot on my new system. I have a separate hard drive just for Ubuntu, however I can't even get an installer to load to let me install it!
It varies on different manufacturer motherboards. I've got two recent ASRock mobos (different form factors) and the UEFI implementations on them are a bit different. The better one, recognizes UEFI on a USB stick and gives the option to boot it as BIOS or UEFI.

Configuration:
MBB: ASRock X79 Extreme6
- Win 7 installed on a INTEL 40GB SSD (GPT partitioned)
- Ubuntu 14.04 on a CORSAIR 30GB SSD (Ext4 and SWAP)
Windows has been installed previously in UEFI mode, using 3 partitions (GPT) and works fine if left alone.
Hello I want to install Ubuntu 12.10 on an UEFI machine with manual partitioning.
Do I have to disable "Secure Boot"?
Do I have to create a 2nd ESP (EFI System Partition) for Ubuntu?
Do I have to give it the boot flag?
Do I have to set mount point /boot/efi?
Do I have to install grub on /dev/sda?
I am used to BIOS installation where:
/dev/sda1 100 MB Windows 7 hidden System Partition
/dev/sd
I'm struggling to boot Ubuntu from bootable USB I've made using unetbootin. In the older days, when booting laptop you could go into bios and set the boot device. Now I can't set one. There's no hotkey I could press during boot to open up BIOS.
all.
I just brought a new Toshiba Satallite M840 with pre-loaded Windows 8.
