I installed 12.04 xubuntu and latest eclipse. java is also installed. path is set correctly. but there are two things strange to me.
1. when I double click the eclipse executable, it says cannot find java;
2. create a launcher on the desktop, it says the same thing as above;
open a terminal, type eclipse, it will start eclipse without any error.
I have some problems with running eclipse. First I've installed eclipse and it worked, then I used sudo apt-get ... to install java jdk, jre, pydev, pylucene, numpy, scipy, networkx, matplotlib.
All of installations reported successful but when I start eclipse on Ubuntu, it gives me tons of error.
Is the java not working properly on Ubuntu?
It is often suggested to me that to improve the performance of the Eclipse development environment, that I should move the Java JDK/JVM (and possibly Eclipse) to a Ramdisk.
I know that the Ubuntu has this /dev/shm device always available, but whats the right way to set up a ram disk with Java on it that will be there everytime I boot up?

So, I finally grew tired of dealing with microsoft and all their b.s., and a buddy of mine talks me into getting fedora 11. Needless to say I have no clue what I am doing, and since I don't like bothering him everytime I hit a wall and need to learn this for myself,; my question is a two-fer. first Does anyone know where linux noob such as myself can learn how to work with fedora.
I just installed Fedora 17. I'm setting up the Android Build Environment and need Java.
I downloaded and installed jdk-6u32-linux-amd64.rpm I ran
java -version
and it spit out the correct version.
Well a day or two later i tried my first compile in Fedora 17 and it complained about java and failed.
