http://www.downloadsquad.com – Considering we're now at version 6 of Eye Candy, you'd be right in assuming that this is a very feature rich piece of software. Eye Candy is a set of Photoshop filters that are useful for graphic designers: logos, text, wallpapers -- that kind of thing. There are 30 filters in total, most of them very different to the default Photoshop filters, and they're all easily configurable. There are over 1,500 presets, so chances are you'll be able to achieve a pleasing effect with just a few clicks -- but even if you need to stray from the garden path, Eye Candy's configuration is very easy to beat into submission. I'm being told that Eye Candy 6 is faster than previous versions due to multi-core CPU acceleration, and adapting to the size of the image being processed -- but considering I never used Eye Candy 5, I really don't know. I'm a photographer, not a graphic designer, so I can't really tell if this is the graphic design package, but I can tell you it's pretty useless for manipulating photos -- unless you're after some fake-looking fire to sprout out of your beautiful landscape... or to have chrome balls bouncing across it (if you ever see chrome balls in my photos, shoot me). Anyway, even if you're not interested, there's a great introductory video that shows how the chromed eye symbol in the banner above was made. At $249, it's not cheap -- but considering a Photoshop CS4 license costs something like $700, another $250 isn't likely to break the bank. You tell me, designers and illustrators, are the Eye Candy effects impressive? If you're not sure, you can always download the demo first!
