External Display connected to Macbook pro won't sleep

http://serverfault.com – I have Macbook Pro with OSX 10.6.8. It is connected to external display (HP 2311x) using Thunderbolt to HDMI cable. My Macbook display goes to sleep after every 15 minutes of inactivity but the external display won't go to sleep. It does try to go to sleep but wake up immediately. It does that in never ending loop. I have to manually turn off the external display. Is there some settings I need to change to make external display sleep when Macbook display goes to sleep? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!! (HowTos)

It's more a hardware problem than an Ubuntu problem, I think, but maybe there is a workaround.

I'm using a HP DV7-1145ef laptop with a HDMI output. I'm also using an external display (HP 2275W) with a DVI input. Both are linked with a HDMI/DVI cable.

I have a 13" MBP running Fedora 18. When the systems goes into powersave mode and shuts off the display (which I would like it to do after a period of time), the laptop screen wakes from sleep, but the 30" external monitor does not. If I unplug the monitor and plug it back in it restores the display.

Not a major issue, but a bit of an on-going annoyance. Anyone else experiencing this?

Hallo, I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 with latest updates on HP desktop computer with embed sandy bridge intel graphic card and onboard display port connector. The problem is that, when the monitor goes to sleep and it is connected to the display port, it will never wake up. I have to hard restart the computer.

hi i have lubuntu on my laptop, the display doesn't sleep when not used, is there something i can set to make it sleep please.

By default, if I connect an external display under Xfce, it is not activated until I choose to in xfce4-display-settings or lxrandr.

If set to use external display only and then restart with that monitor closed, the external-display setting is kept and I have no display at all; and have to start the external monitor in order to change the settings to use the internal display.
