Dear Ms. Longoria: You and The VAR Guy are set to attend the same technology event next week: McAfee Focus 2012. Our resident blogger typically writes about the high-tech market, but he also focuses on human interest stories from time to time. With that thought in mind: Can we meet for coffee and discuss your work as a philanthropist?
McAfee Co-President Michael DeCesare this morning offered an update on the Intel-McAfee synergies, and he sees four trends impacting the future of IT security: (1) Social media, (2)public and private cloud, (3) big data and (4) the app explosion tied to mobile.
McAfee, an Intel (NASDAQ: INTC) company, has unveiled an open Security Connected Platform. It will allow partners and customers to plug additional services into McAfee’s offerings, the company claims. The news surfaced at McAfee FOCUS 2012 today in Las Vegas.
Before he became a professional blogger, The VAR Guy was a professional slacker — skipping college courses to boot up his original Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) and conquer Tetris. Oh, the memories.
It sounds like a really big happy meal for channel partners. The new McAfee Profitability Stack serves up a range of beefy options to help VARs maximize their security software profits. So, will partners eat up the concept — especially as Sophos, Symantec and Trend Micro (among others) continue to counter the Intel-McAfee combo?
What the heck do CIOs want from VARs, IT service providers and MSPs in 2013? The VAR Guy will pose that question later this month to Ralph Salomon, CISO, SAP; Mark Settle, CIO, BMC; Stephen Windsor, CIO, Maddrix; and Patty Hatter, CIO, McAfee. Indeed, our resident blogger — or one of his handlers — will moderate a CIO panel featuring those experts during McAfee Focus 2012.
McAfee is one of the more popular antivirus protections available to PC users, and with the malware on Android devices, they’ve stepped in to provide their trusted protection on smartphones and tablets, too. Recently, McAfee updated their Android application with a refreshed user interface and an innovative new App Lock feature.
The VAR Guy is expected to attend Cloud Channel Summit (Nov. 5, Mountain View, Calif.). He’ll come armed with plenty of questions that explore how VARs are becoming cloud builders, cloud resellers and cloud services providers. Plus, The VAR Guy — if he truly exists — may also have time for one-on-one meetings. If you’re interested post a comment or tweet @thevarguy.
Twitter has suffered another outage. But there’s no way to tweet about it. Is that cruel and unusual social media punishment? Ironically, The VAR Guy’s own cloud service provider earlier today went dark for a bit. And our resident blogger’s email system also crashed today.
