Ethernet Connection Doesn't work

http://askubuntu.com – Not sure what happened over the weekend (possibly the last sudo apt-get upgrade I ran this morning?), but I noticed that my computer's using my phone's internet connection (connected via USB and listed as "Wired Connection 2") instead of my ethernet connection ("Wired Connection 1"). I've tried restarting NetworkManager with sudo service network-manager start and stop, but that doesn't appear to fix anything. Rebooting doesn't change anything either. Adding my static IP address information to /etc/network/interfaces didn't help, so I removed that again. I tried the steps in this answer, (HowTos)

I'm on Ubuntu Maverick (10.10). I've read a few threads regarding wired connection problems, but haven't found a solution yet.

The problem appears after I connect to a wireless network. When I disconnect wireless and plug in an internet cable, the wired connection is not recognized at all.

Hello, I have found lots of similar posts on wifi but nothing for wired ethernet connection.

If my system suspends, when I resume I have no wired network connection. In nm-applet I can see everything as it should be before I suspended the system apart from there is no connection to choose. If I edit connections the connection is there but doesn't appear in the applet drop-down.

I have a dell latitude 2100 running ubuntu 11.1. Wireless internet works fine on it but wired connections do not. When I plug a ethernet cord in, it keeps on saying wired connection connected followed by disconnected. When I check the ethernet connection in the network part of system settings, it also keeps rapidly changing to on/off.

Connection to Internet stops when connected to wired Internet using network manager.

Ubuntu 12.04.

I'm rather new to Linux/Ubuntu and about to lose my religion figuring this one out.

I am unable to connect to the internet with ethernet in 10.04 64bit. Everything was working fine this morning, but when I booted up this evening, no connection.

In Network Connections, under the Wired tab, Auto eth0 reads Last Used: never. Also, Network Manager had created a new network, Wired Connection 1.

I just installed xubuntu (8.04) onto an old Sony vaio laptop and am a complete Linux newbie. After playing around, it seems to be running well, except it is not detecting my wired Ethernet connection correctly.

Sometimes I need to do some operational work in text mode and I need to setup internet connection from command line (without any networkmanager applet).

(Please note: that when I run Window Manager, I have network connection immediately, thanks to NetworkManager applet.)

When I list my connections and look for wired one:

# nmcli con | grep Wired New Wired Connection b15ffacf-a5c58-44af-b75

I tried to install a recent kernal update that got hung up and wouldn't finish so I aborted the update. After that I could no longer use $sudo modprobe b43 to initiate my wireless connection. My strategy is to establish a wired connection, make sure all updates could be installed, and then try to establish the wireless connection again. However, I cannot establish a wired connection.

I'm at a complete loss AND I have no idea what I'm doing.

Box and network via ethernet was fine. Moved the box with a new ethernet connection. Network crapped out.
