Is there any chance I can load binary codecs on 64bit arch linux ? I have few .dat files that works great under 32bit windows xp, with smplayer (after downloading codecs), but on 64bit Linux, I got twisted image.
I downloaded all binary codecs for win32 here,
And essential elf64 libs here
Both archive was extracted to /usr/lib/codecs
From output of strace, seems /usr/lib/codecs wasn't loaded.
I have the struggle when trying to play avi file .
I left-click the avi file (MPlayer is run as default); and I have the fatal error report:
FATAL: Could not initialize video filters (-vf) or video output (-vo)
It seems MPlayer is the default player in my env Fedora11 KDE.
When I do the same with others formats (mp3, mpeg, etc) , MPayer works well.
MPlayer is a very common tool in the Linux world, it is usually used for watching videos or running audios. However, MPlayer has many more features and options.

Mplayer is a marvellous media player. Not just the fact that it can play almost all audio/video formats, it even provides you with a powerful command line. You can handle every feature of Mplayer through the terminal.
I've been using mplayer for a long time with several distros, and I like it.
All,
I had no problems playing video with F17, but after a fedup upgrade to F18, no video playback or DVD play with mplayer.

it works to view using mplayer with these options
mplayer tv:// -tv driver=v4l2:input=1:channel=1:width=768:height=768 :device=/dev/video0:norm=NTSC
