I use XBMC as my main TV viewing platform.
However XBMC addons store passwords in plain text, including for Youtube, your Google password!
So I want to run XBMC as it's own user with its own permissions etc so that no one other than a super user and XBMC can see it's files and the passwords.
I can do this quite easily
Code:
xhost +local:
sudo -u xbmcuser xbmc
xhost -local:

Hello and merry Christmas!I have a problem installing XBMC. I have added the debian multimedia repos and am able to install XBMC 10 but that's too old. I would ideally like to install 11 or even 12 rc2. The problem is that when trying to install 11 or 12 rc2 using the Wheezy (testing) and Sid (unstable), the xbmc-bin and xbmc-data packages are corrupt.
We have just been told that the 10.0 "Dharma" release of XBMC is due out this coming week. XBMC 10.0 presents a unified add-on framework and a lot of features related to this work for providing new functionality, initial gesture support for the XBMC GUI Engine, improved mouse support, Broadcom...
I have a laptop running Ubuntu and XBMC for my parents can use. Occasionally, XBMC will freeze and they have no way of restarting XBMC. The desktop is unresponsive.
If this was on Windows, my parents would hit ctrl-alt-del, kill XBMC, and reopen it. If this was me, I'd drop into shell and run pkill xbmc.
I need a method my parents can use on Ubuntu.

XBMC is an award-winning free and open source (GPL) software media player and entertainment hub for digital media. XBMC is available for Linux, OSX, Windows, and the original Xbox.
I have installed XBMC from repo on openSUSE 11.2 64 but I can't use any plugin.
When I paste some plugin folder in /xbmc/plugins/program (SVN_Repo_Installer) it is visible in XBMC but nothing happens when I try to open it in XBMC.
I have tried many plugins but non worked.
Any ideas?
