Hi Everyone -Having an interesting issue where if AHCI is enabled in the bios for SATA ports, every time the system is rebooted, new /dev/sdX letters are assigned randomly. So my /dev/... [by raphk]
Simon, I followed your steps and now I am left an Intel IC7R/DH SATA AHCI Controller and a Standard Dual Channel PCI/IDE Controller, plus a primary and secondary IDE channel. I have changed the bios to AHCI, and the machine boots up ok, but when I try to change the other controller over to AHCI, I get no joy (BSOD). I am trying to get my SSD to be seen so I can image my HD.
I have installed Fedora 18 on a HP envy h8-1520t(EFI system). I could only get it to install/boot with secure boot disabled.
However the bigger problem is that if SATA emulation in EFI is set to "ahci" (as opposed to "ide") it hangs with the message "Loading inital ramdisk" The installation was done with SATA emulation set to "ahci".
Hi, I've been working with the tech support guys that i bought this workstation/server through and have reached a problem. I'll attach the lspci -vv output, but the gist of the problem is that if I set the BIOS to show the drives as IDE the OS sees 5 drives, plus the cd-rom.
I installed windows & forgot to change my Samsung SSD from iDE to AHCI in bios. I followed the registry steps to change values to 0 then change the IDE to AHCI in bios but whenever I go to samsung Magician software it says under system information AHCI deactivated? Why does it say deactivated if I followed all the steps to activate it, can anyone help with this issue?
My home- built system runs Windows7 Pro 32 bit. I bought an SSD and have installed Win 7 Pro 64 bit on it, and plan to use my old mechanical drive for data storage, etc. I set the SATA mode to AHCI before installing Windows on the SSD.
I installed Windows 7 onto a Samsung 840 SSD. My motherboard (a ASRock z68 extreme4) was in IDE mode when I performed the installation. When I change the BIOS to be in AHCI mode, Windows won't successfully boot (blue screens mid-boot).
Should I reinstall Windows 7 with the motherboard in AHCI mode to get the advantages of AHCI?
