The system will also allow SMS alerts to be sent to international and domestic tourists who are visiting areas where an emergency situation arises.
Attorney General Robert McClelland has released a report on Australia's national telephone-based emergency warning system - Emergency Alert - saying it is working well and that an overwhelming majority of households alerted during recent emergencies found it invaluable, but the level of awareness of the service and preparedness to respond need to be raised.
