Email server how to guidance needed

http://www.linuxforums.org – Hi All, this is a new area for me so I'm pretty dumb what it comes to the how to on this. I have web and email hosting on an external isp, and there are several different email accounts on their servers. What I want to do is set up a in-house email server that will relay from /to the host and bring the email in-house where any machine can connect to the email server to access email using an imap. I think this is the best format to use so any person can be sitting at any machine and have access to all past and present email that has ever been sent or received I'd like to use sendmail, dbmail, spamassassin, klamav, spell checking and whatever else is needed to make this work in a relatively safe and secure manner. Right now I am quite overwhelmed with info and little of it make a whole lot of sense. I have been able to d/l and install debmail and sendmail and have made it to the setting up mysql and configuring dbmail, but now what? I still need to figure out how to get XMail to send and receive to/from the external host and client machines and use spamassassin and virus checking. Does any know of a "how to step by step guide on how to wire up all the components to make it all work? or any advise on what works and what doesn't etc. thanks... (HowTos)

i need help for sendmail configuration in our linux machine.

Here the things: I want to send email to outside by using our exchange server as the mail relay.But when sending the email through the server,it will response "user unknown".To make it worse, it will bounce back all the sent message to my localhost.

I already tested our configuration by using external mail server such as gmail and yaho

We have an offsite hosted email server, which works (but is slow), and all our users connect to it to receive email.

I am trying to setup a dbmail-based email server with dbmail+postfix+mysql (and eventually sasl I guess), however I seem to be unable to send or receive any emails.

I run some forums from an Arch Virtual Machine however I cannot get mail to work.  I have installed postfix just to get hold of the sendmail program.  When I run a test my forums suggest it went well but nothing is received.SMTP: localhost sendmail_from: None sendmail_path: /usr/sbin/sendmail -t -i

Help Results No errors were returned while attempting to send the email.

This is probably a stupid question so I apologize up front. Email is not my area of expertise and I do quite a bit of hacking around to get stuff done.

I am using evolution email and like the additional features such as contacts, tasks, appointment calendar etc.

I am using email via imap and have the system to save email in imap folders that can be accessed from any machine on the network.

I have a client who has a server but does not host their own email. They have just purchased a MFC and want to scan-to-email. I have them set up to send mail to gmail, however if they try to send to an email address outside the gmail network it doesn't go through. I've racked my brain on this all day, what can I do?
