eclipse icon missing while switching through applications in unity

http://askubuntu.com – I installed eclipse directly from the eclipse site and added it to unity launcher as mentioned here. But when I cycle through applications using ctrl-R, I cannot see eclipse. Couple of times, I had to kill eclipse using kill command and restart eclipse just to access it. But later I found out that if I select desktop icon while switching, I can access eclipse. How to get an independent eclipse icon while switching applications using ctrl-R ? Thanks suresh (HowTos)

I run gnome shell 3.6 and Eclipse 4.2. I installed Eclipse manually, in my /opt directory, because the Ubuntu package for Eclipse is very outdated.

I've created a .desktop file for it, and placed in in ~/.local/share/applications.

I have added an program to unity using .desktop file.

I downloaded and installed Eclipse JUNO in Fedora 17, KDE desktop and created an eclipse.desktop. The icon does appear in the Application.Development section but it does not open when selected. I am able to open Eclipse on the command line.

I was tring to install eclipse on ubuntu. What I did: I unzipped the tar archive of eclipse. I tried to start eclipse from the command line - like this - ./eclipse. It works. But then I tried to create a desktop icon with: gnome-desktop-item-edit ~/Desktop --create-new. In a new icon I showed the path to the eclipse executable which I could launch from the command line.

I'm following this tutorial located here on how to create a launcher for eclipse in unity.

Well I have been using Eclipse and as noted by one of the person's that answered my questions a while back, Eclipse is really 'goofy'. It makes it hard to code sometimes and you have to clean and build multiple times and on several occassions restart Eclipse altogether.

So I am thinking is there a better IDE you can program android applications on that are more stable than Eclipse?

I installed eclipse though the unbuntu software center but I experienced some issues and I wanted to install the official eclipse version.

Extracted it, but if I double click "eclipse" it doesn't do anything.

I have F17. I had Eclipse, then I decided to make yum update, after what there was a problem with workplaces in Eclipse so I decided to reinstall it. I did yum remove eclipse, then it removed only eclipse-pde, though a very big file, approximately 300 Mb.

please, I've installed oracle java jdk and eclipse, and every thing goes well, but I can't add eclipse for the launcher, I have every time i use it to access it from the terminal, my ubuntu is 10.04, but I'm not sure how can I open it from the launcher or even from the desktop ?
