I followed the guide for restricted formats and i can play my videos with SMplayer, Xine, VLC etc but not Totem. Totem in 11.3 uses Gstreamer, and i believe i have all gstreamer plugins installed, good, bad, ugly, base etc. Also thumbnails won't show. Reason i want to use Totem? cuz it's integrated well with Gnome
I am a huge fan of totem and mplayer and prefer their sound to other applications. I want to setup my multimedia library in such a way that when I play any multimedia file it should be played in totem/mplayer.
PS: I use Ubuntu 11.10.
PPS: I would really appreciate if I could get most of the functionalities of softwares such as Banshee and Rhythmbox if not all.
to play video file i want to install totem(movie player) first of all i remove totem-mozplugin totem-plparser
after that when i try to install the following----
yum install totem-xine totem-xine-mozplugin totem-xine-plparser libdvdcss libdvdnav libdvdplay xine-lib-extras-nonfree rhythmbox.i386 0:0.10.0-8.fc9
my audio seems to work just fine, system sounds work, and cmus seems to play everything i throw at it. but gstreamer doesn't seem to be working, and all i get are cryptic errors. when i start banshee from the command line, the only error i get is:[Error 20:55:41.325] GStreamer stream error: Failedand the music doesn't play. totem gives me a similar and equally useless e
I am trying to play a file it is x264 with aac audio in a matroska container.
I have installed x264 support, faac, gpac and gstreamer-ugly. Now the file will play in Xine but Totem still reports that the codecs are missing.
Are there any reasons for this? If I have installed the codecs and xine pays why wont totem?
Using SuSE 11.2 KDE. Totem is completely mute, regardless of which type of video file I try playing. Have tried Pulse and Alsa. Have tried Xine and gStreamer. Any ideas?
Hi,
When I try to play a DVD in Totem in F18 I get this error:-
(totem:11461): GStreamer-CRITICAL **: gst_caps_append: assertion `IS_WRITABLE (caps1)' failed
(totem:11461): GStreamer-CRITICAL **: gst_caps_append: assertion `IS_WRITABLE (caps1)' failed
(totem:11461): GStreamer-CRITICAL **: gst_caps_append: assertion `IS_WRITABLE (caps1)' failed
The DVD worked fine in F17.
The best thing to do with totem is rpm -e it! Use vlc or mplayer instead. [by TrevorH]
Video (formerly Totem), the official movie player of the GNOME desktop environment based on Gstreamer that features a playlist, a full-screen mode, seek and volume controls, as well as keyboard navigation, is now at version 3.8.2.This is actually the first maintenance release for Video (Totem).
