So I just reinstalled OpenSUSE 11.2 and I went from having 20-30 mbps speed to and from my 1 tb usb ntfs external hard drive to having about 1 mbps transfer speeds now. Is there any suggestions for how I can fix this? I know it can go faster, I just need to figure out how. and would setting acpi=off at boot affect this?

Following a recent install of F11, I get a slowish boot, so I hit Esc. to get verbose and noticed some badblocks but the strange thing was it was reporting fd0
So I didn't get all the blurb and whilst it still slows at boot because of bad blocks, it's not doing a check and doesn't report the info like earlier.
When trying to install Ubuntu 11.4 on an existing Windows installation I am not able to see my existing partitions not in the installation menu and not in gparted via live cd as well.
sudo fdisk -l:
Disk /dev/sda: 2000.4 GB, 2000398934016 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 243201 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes

I am a newbie. I followed what I read on the forums but I am stuck trying to mount a Seagate 100GB ext hardrive over usb. I am giving the info here: (ubuntu 9.04)

I recently installed linux and windows XP on two seperate hard drives and I'm having difficulty dual booting. My menu.lst looks like this:
#boot=/dev/sda

timeout=10
splashimage=(hd0,0)/grub/splash.xpm.gz
##hiddenmenu

fdisk -l
Code:
Disk /dev/sda: 80.0 GB, 80000000000 bytes
Hi all,
I had Fedora11 (default layout) running on a separate hard drive (winXP on the other drive). After the FC drive failure I replaced the drive and did a fresh install again. This time I tried a custom layout to keep the /home on a separate partition. The installation went without a hitch, but on first boot the system hangs with
"Verifying DMI Pool Data......"
Hi,
I have a double boot (Windows 7 then fedora) that stopped booting (I was on windows and it suddenly
told me it was shutting down).
