I had installed Lubuntu on a PC with Windows XP and used dual boot for some time with no problems.
Since I had almost abandoned Windows (kept it for printing...) I decided to resize its ntfs partition and add the free space to my Ubuntu space.
Tried that with a gparted stick and a live cd but would not work due to an issue related to the ntfs partition: gparted signaled with a red exclamation po

I'm going to install Arch Linux on my new laptop, and want to keep the existing Windows 7 installation as well. The problem is that there can only be four logical partitions, and they are all being used by Windows/Lenovo:I was thinking of converting the C drive, which is the largest (600 GB) into an extended type, then using that partition to create logical partitions and use those for Arch.
I just bought a new laptop that comes with Windows 7 preinstalled and I want to install Ubuntu alongside with it.
The system came with 5 partitions:

Unknown partition

A recovery partition
I had removed the NTFS data partition and shrinked the windows partition to make room for Ubuntu as it will be my m

Hi All
Kindly help me to install Fedora 18 to my laptop, LENOVO, which had Windows 7 OEM.
I want to remove that OS, and need to install Fedora.
When I tried booting from pendrive, keeping 2 NTFS partitions as such, as I need the files in it, and deleted C: drive, in addition to HDD partitions, some sdc partition is there with 0 B size.
I am trying to dual-boot a very old Windows XP with Ubuntu. I knew I would have problems changing the partitioning on the drive. XP is using ~50% of the drive space. I would like to shrink it and make another space for Ubuntu that is ~25% of hard drive. When I used the System Rescue CD (www.sysresccd.org), I went into the normal GUI with GParted and it would not let me move SDA1 NTFS (XP).
Hello Group,
I'm a long time follower of Ubuntu and FOSS :D. After trying out Ubuntu (WUBI included), I'm finally ready to dual boot (need to keep windows for work related programs).
My hard drive has 2 partitions - C: (user files) & D: with Windows installed on D: (free space about 50 GB).
Hey all, I'm brand new to Linux and i decided to try Fedora. I tested with a USB stick and decided to install it to my hdd so I could dual boot it with windows 7. When I get to the part where I need to make a partition, I first chose use free space. This gave me an error saying I didn't have any free space. I checked my partitions and I noticed I had 4.
