I want to set up a download area within a site, (FTP or HTTP, doesn't matter) and I would like to have at least a handful of mirrors scattered around the world. I would like the download links to choose a mirror transparently for the user. It may be random, round-robin, or it may have some smart IP proximity logic. Is there some good package (e.g. a Python or PHP library) I could use for that end?

My goal is : Providing the best download speed to the user by hosting the file on multiple servers around the world.
The idea :
Uploading files to the main server A (example.com/hello.pdf)
Then server A is supposed to sync/push the uploaded files to server B,C,etc...
I don't understand why i can get the name of the mirror i'm downloading from only in an error message. Why the download cannot start with the name of the current mirror and the next mirror?
I prefer using Axel in Firefox through Flashgot but didn't yet make it the default, and keep it just for bigger files, because I cannot easily open the download folder as I can in the normal Firefox window with a right-click, and so using it for all files is cumbersome.
Can I have this option while using Axel, maybe using a GUI for Axel that would display a list of downloads?

Trying to update my fresh install of 11.3 KDE and I don't know if I broke something (possible) or if something is going on with the repositories and servers as I saw there is maintenance scheduled. I would assume there are enough mirrors to rule out the servers.
The latest build of Ubuntu 13.04 daily build can be download from official Ubuntu cdimage server.
However, I found downloading from this server to be extremely slow.
