On Canon website downloaded their latest driver for Linux:

And I opened both above with Ubuntu
So my friends who are new to Linux just bought a new printer, a Canon IP3600 because we saw that Canon Europe has a driver for that model. Also this printer has individual ink tanks and so it is easy to refill the cartridges.
Here is the updated drivers for Canon MP990 XPS wireless series. This is the driver version 5.30b for Canon MP990 XPS All in one Printer for Windows Vista and Windows 7. If you have older version, please update your printer driver using this 5.30b version.

Actually, it works quite well under CUPS, so I shouldn't complain.
But I would like to see it work again with the Canon driver & I am not there yet.
Canon Australia doesn't have Linux drivers for iP4300 any more (sad) but they are still available from Canon Europe.

I download and installed the Canon drivers from the Canon website:
UFR II Printer Driver for Linux Version 2.50

When I print documents, I see them show up in the print queue.
Recently this model printer was moved to the paperweight section of the linux printer database, well this was a correct move for (new Installs of 11.2 ) but , there is a way around this if you have one of these printers and they are great for basic printing in linux.
this is not the best way to save a printer but it worked for me and i did not have to go out and replace two printers.
