DOOM 3 BFG Edition is a remake, mostly for consoles, of a game launched back in 2004, and now the developers will make part of the engine free, for the Linux community.The last project of id Software, Rage, didn’t sold too well.
id Software hasn’t learned from other game studios that Linux is an emerging platform and neither did their publisher, Bethesda.
DOOM 3 BFG Edition was officially released for the consoles and the Windows platform more than a month ago, but id Software hasn't forgotten the Linux community and now they've also published the source code for the game.
The initial announcement was made in October by John Carmack on Twitter, but there was no other indication of the release date.

The venerable Phoronix pointed out that Robert Beckebans has adopted the open source code to Doom 3 to support the recent revamped retail release, Doom 3: BFG, on Linux. Robert’s fork can be found here.
Version 1.3.0 of Chocolate Doom (as it strives to emulate Vanilla Doom) has been released with new features like more flexible key binding and scores of bugfixes.

Is it possible get a xbox 360 controller working with DOOM 3 under Linux? I know that under windows you can use something like xpadder to get it to work with DOOM 3. What alternative is there under Linux?
