Running 12.04 LTS. This is extremely annoying and makes me want to try another flavor of linux. Yes, this little inconvenience is THAT annoying to me. Most of the time the launcher will appear nice and easy as soon as I mouse over the upper left corner, but many times, the left edge of the screen will get a little darker, but the launcher will not appear.
After modifying a desktop file in /usr/share/applications, I need to refresh the launcher icon application menu so that my modification shows up.
For the sake of clarity, the menu that should get modified is the one that appears with a right click when the pointer is on an icon of the launcher (the big bar full of icon on the left side of the screen).
In Ubuntu 11.04 Unity, you might prefer the left launcher bar but dislike the searching-style app menu in top-panel. Mac-like dock has classic app menu but there also has many useless shortcut icons that already shown in left launcher bar.
Although we cannot replace the top-panel with the classic gnome-panel, there’s a classic start menu can be added onto left launcher bar.
After I have right at the bottom panel->Add panel, then added the start menu button, the button now is located at the right corner of the panel, besides the month calendar. I want it to be where it always has been, at the left side of the panel.
If I "move" the start menu to the left, I cant see my tabs in the panel because the start menu is overlaying(??) them.
In one of my accounts a while ago I managed to disable the launcher. In the upper left the panel has a menu for Application and one for Places. I want to modify another account so it works the same way, but I can't remember how I did it and can't find instructions related to ocelot on the WWW... and/or I don't know what to search for.

After picasa/wine installation, I have wine as the top entry in my main menu.
I want to move it to another place in the menu, but it does not show up in settings->main menu (alacarte).
Googling returns mostly posts of people who uninstalled wine but still had the menu entry. I want to keep wine and the menu entry, but would just like to move it to the accessories-category if possible.
