I am running gnome 3 under Fedora 17. Previously with gnome 2, I could create a program launcher which sat in the horizontal bar on top for a program in /usr/local/bin. Under gnome 3, if I put the program name or location in the slot on the upper right, nothing happens. I want to have a launcher, if possible in the 'favorites bar' on the left.
Having a Wonderful time with gnome 3
Love the shortcut in the upper left to switch between windows
Have had no problems to speak of
Like the favorite's launcher
And the App launcher
If you like it too please chime in and let us know what you like about it

If you have used Gnome-Do in Linux, you will find some resemblance in Synapse. The user-interface is the same activate the launcher, type the search term, press Enter to execute. The only difference is that Synapse makes use of the Zeitgeist engine to display your search result.
The configurable Gnome app launcher requires some plug-ins for optimal performance.
Hello
I want to make a launcher, which I created with
Code:
gnome-desktop-item-edit Desktop --create-new
for my Bash script.
The script works perfectly as long as I start it in the terminal using
Code:
./scriptname
but if I want to start it using my launcher I get something like
Code:
ideasUnvToFoam command not found
I'm using OpenFOAM 2.1.0 on Ubuntu 12.10 and allready edit
I recently had to bin my .cache, .config, .gconf, and .compiz-1 folders because unity got trashed for whatever reason.
Now for the life of me I cannot restore docky's old launcher set, no matter what I try it is blank. I mean, I can add them back manually, but why should I have to take the time to do that?
Can anyone tell me whether Gnome Docky can be compiled from source tar.gz for fedora as it is only provided as a deb package. If it is possible can anyone help with instruction to compile it?
docky ppa link: https://launchpad.net/docky
I'm familiar with:-
tar package xvzf tar.gz
cd package
Why gnome-do in Fedora is so limited and why without docky? There is in repo cairo-dock and avant and we have no problem with patents with this?
Give me my gnome-do back in full version, with all plugins and docklets :)
Gnome-do docky ROCKS!
I've been using unity for a while, and just switched to gnome. (Gnome 3.2 on Ubuntu 11.10)
I've liked it a lot, but it's missing one key feature (in my mind). In Unity you can use the super button with a number key to open an app on the launcher. For example: Chromium is my second app on the unity launcher, so I can press super-2 to launch it.
Is there any way to do this in Gnome?
