I recently did a fresh install of Kubuntu 12.04 on a new 64-bit system with 16GB RAM. However, when I run a program that involves a lot of sorting of datasets (reading and writing to the hard drive), almost all other active programs -- Firefox, Thunderbird, etc. -- go into "disk sleep" and things generally slow down, i.e.
While running an F12 Live USB from a flash stick, processes performing heavy-ish disk I/O go into a "disk sleep" state (STAT column is "D" in `ps`) - this causes the system to grind to a halt.
Hello,
I have an USB hard disk with an ext4 file system.
Every time I plug in the disk or boot the system while the disk is on,
it will be mounted.
I set my storage hard disk to auto-mount at start up, using fstab options, but sometimes (when my computer has been on for awhile) the storage hard disk will unmount by itself....any ideas?
Just did a clean install of Xubuntu 12.04 amd64 on a new Western Digital wd30ezrx 3TB hard disk - no errors during install.
Hello everybody,
I installed a Fedora 11 in an old iBook with PowerPC long time ago, and let it be a small server at office, but the hardware was not so much stable and crashed. It looks like it corrupted the ext3 of the hard disk because I cannot boot it anymore.
When I was installing, I got this error from ubuntu. (dialog)
The installer encountered an error copying files to the hard disk:
[Errno 30] Read-only file system: '/target/tmp'
This is often due to a faulty hard disk. It may help to check whether the hard disk is old and in need of replacement, or to move the system to a cooler environment.
If you need more infos, contact me.
I have a couple of errors with my hard drive... I am using a 320 gb drive and I'm only seeing 289 gb with the partition and swap in system monitor. I look in the Palimpsest Disk Utility, I find that it does know I have a 320 gb hard disk. There are two warnings when I click "more info". It says "Reallocated Sector Count" and "Current Pending Sector Count" in red.
Dear Members
In these days my hard disk is weird
I can see in my pc that the red light (when read/write process to the disk happens) remain on
and Linux crash, it seems that the hard disk has problems
Therefore, exits a tool according with your experience that let me see the status of all my hard disk?
Thanks in advanced
