Hello,
I am really new to Ubuntu and am running 12.04 on a Dell Inspiron 1300 laptop.
As the title says I would like to stop this screen dimming, I use my laptop mostly on battery power
I have read lots of posts including this one....
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...top+screen+dim
some of the suggestions I just have no idea how to do !
Changing the settings has no effect
I just installed 9.10 I've noticed a small problem. The screensaver works fine when my laptop is running on AC power, but when it runs on battery power, the screensaver doesn't appear when locking the screen or waiting for it to activate. The screen does fade to black, and locks, but no screensaver...just a black screen.
and how do i set the screen saver to be a single image
I just installed Fedora 18 on my ASUS K55VD laptop 2 days ago, I've noticed that when i try to adjust the screen brightness in KDE either with the fn keys or with the GUI in the power management or the using the slider when clicking on the battery icon, All i get is the brightness bar comes up and changes but almost instantly reverts to 90%.
Caffeine is a small panel applet that lets you temporarily disable screensaver and sleep or powersaving mode in Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid.
I want to disable suspend/ screen blank so that the laptop (ASUS F6J running Karmic 9.10) remains on once the lid is closed. I use a monitor plugged into the laptop when I work at home and want to stack the laptop on a small shelf. I use the machine on ac power all the time to am not worried about batteries.
I'm on Ubuntu 12.04 and I can't seem to be able to disble the screen blanker. After maybe 5 minutes of inactivity, the screen blanks out and goes to power saving mode. I run awesome window manager and it happens there but also in Gnome Classic mode.
First of all, I'm aware a similar question for GNOME is asked here: "Switch off laptop backlight when locking screen".
Objective
I would like to turn off my screen on locking the session for power saving reasons.
Actual problem
Locking the screen on Kubuntu (KDE) inevitably triggers the screensaver as far as I can see.
Is it a laptop? If so, may be hardware dimming.

This seems to be the opposite problem most people ask with KDE PM. I have a laptop running Ubuntu 12.10 and KDE 4.10. After the last couple of updates (I'm not sure which one), my screen stopped turning off after the power management timeout has been reached. This occurs with no screensaver, basic screensaver, or any of the others.
