Apple and Google’s Maps rift on iOS 6 was apparently caused by an inability by the two companies to see eye-to-eye on one key feature: turn-by-turn navigation.

Sure, most have the world has been utilizing Google’s free turn-by-turn navigation via Google Maps for years, but until now users south of the border have been left out of the action.

On the Google Lat Long Blog, Google Maps Software Engineer Larry Powelson announced the addition of new mobile biking directions and navigation to the Google Maps for Android app. Ten countries have received new biking directions including Australia, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, and the UK.

I am working on an android navigation application for blind people. So naturally no use of displaying map on the screen. My code for now gets the path by building an url and then parsing the html document. I want to make this live i.e. i want to handle the case when he/she goes off the path or goes in the wrong direction, i want my app to alert him.

The first in Nokia’s wave of Symbian^3 smartphones will take aim at the mass market by undercutting the iPhone in price and offering treats such as free turn-by-turn navigation.
