Well it's been a few years since Linux Girl has had the pleasure of writing about dating in the Linux world -- always one of her favorite topics! -- but recently the topic came up again, albeit with a slight twist. Specifically, in a recent article over at Datamation, it wasn't so much human-to-human matchmaking being discussed as it was pairing of the human-to-desktop kind.
Linux geeks are a generous sort, it seems fair to say, always eager to share the joys of their favorite operating system. So when a Linux geek enters a new relationship -- with a fellow human, that is -- it's only natural to encourage that new flame to adopt Linux too. Makes perfect sense, right? Of course it does. Unfortunately, said partners don't always see it that way.
Well, it pains Linux Girl to have to write these words, but it looks like the "Death of Desktop Linux" story is back for another round. Yes, after countless debates and discussions of the topic ad nauseum over the years -- the most recent being just a few short months ago, in fact -- it recently reared its ugly head again, like a zombie that just won't quit. The culprit this time?
As recent as the last 2 years I’ve noticed that the formerly Microsoft dominated PC world seems to be taking Linux more serious. Since Dell took that first pioneer foray into shipping systems with Linux pre-installed in 2008, other manufacturers have stopped ignoring the Linux world by writing drivers for Linux and porting their software for Linux.
Perhaps it was sheer exhaustion after all the arguments of late, but Linux bloggers have been relatively quiet over the past few days. IBM, oddly enough, seemed to be the topic of most frequent conversation recently, and on several fronts.

Of course, that doesn't mean we can't all dream a little. While Linux is famous for its virtually infinite customizability, sometimes we may wish our favorite distro were a little bit different, even if just in some minor way.
A couple of years ago the topic came up about a few successful attempts at getting a Windows refund with a new PC.In each case, the customer used their favorite version of Linux, and had no desire to run Windows at all. It seems that this topic has resurfaced again recently.more ...
