Details: I recently installed Ubuntu 12.04 on a Gateway 5300 laptop (Computer #1) using the alternate ISO (ubuntu-12.04.1-alternate-i386.iso). This was a new installation not an upgrade. This is a dual boot with Windows XP Home using the Grub loader 1.99-21Ubuntu3.1. The installation appears to be successful: +Computer boots to Grub screen - OK. +OS can be selected or will automatically proceed to Ubuntu after time delay. +Ubuntu shows the password screen and a (HowTos)

So I installed windows 8 on a newly created partition on disk0. Before this I had a dual boot with Windows 7, and Ubuntu 12.04. After the installation of Win8, i no longer see the boot loader, grub appear. I get the normal windows boot option which only gives me the following, win7, and win8... uughh !!

I'm new to these forums and pretty new to Ubuntu, but I've been trying to learn and I just installed Ubuntu 12.10 on my XPS17 as a dual-boot with windows 7.

I recently installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS alongside Windows 7 using Ubuntu's Startup disk creator and installation completed without any difficulties or errors.

Now when I try to boot, it directly boots with Windows and shows no option to choice as to which Operating System to load. But when I boot using that same pen drive with which I installed Ubuntu, it shows an OS selection screen.

This happened after i installed the latest updates (from update manager) yesterday. I don't remember installing anything else than that. I use dual boot with windows home premium x64 + Ubuntu 12.04 with gnome 3.4 desktop environment. I installed gnome last week and i was enjoying the best experience i really ever had in linux with this set up.

I'm a bit new to linux but I've been playing around with it for a few days now and have begun migrating from my previous windows environment.

I recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my desktop which is a home built machine, the problem is that ubuntu doesn't detect my other hard drives. They are not just unmounted, they basically doesn't exist. I can't find em anywhere.

Hi, I installed Ubuntu 12.04.1 64-bit LTS beside my Win8 which is 64-bit, too from a memory flash drive. The problem is there is no such a list to select one of the installed operating systems. The computer itself runs Win8 automatically.

I've got Windows 7 & Ubuntu 11.04 installed on my PC. When I install Ubuntu, it came with GRUB.

On GRUB, when I select "Ubuntu" on boot menu, I've got a purple screen during 16 seconds, and passed 16 seconds it shows the boot screen and loads the desktop.

Actually, I've got BURG installed on my PC but now, when I try to boot Ubuntu, it shows a black screen with a blinking cursor durin 16 sec

I just do fresh installation Ubuntu 12.10 on entire disk (no dual boot).. but seem I cannot get into Ubuntu desktop... Here the detail..

I installed on Asus K50 laptop.. which have two graphic card Ati and Amd... Previously I use Ubuntu 12.04 without any problem... and without need to install any additional driver..

After finish install and restart.. I got nothing..

My laptop had winxp that was dual booting with ubuntu 12.10.

Installed win 8 Pro successfully, now win xp can't load. That's OK as I plan to junk it.

I still want ubuntu but it won;t load either. the wubildr.mbr in c:/ is there.

Have a C drive spilt into 3 parts: C/D/E. Ubuntu is on E.

The "ubuntu-gnome-12.10-desktop-i386" iso installer file is on E.
