Hello everyone, I have recently upgraded to ubuntu 11.10 which has the new Unity desktop which I hate. So I installed the gnome desktop which was gnome 3 not the classic gnome 2 and it look nothing like gnome 2. I just need the menu bars in gnome desktop 3 to look like gnome 2.
Please can someone HELP ME.

Hello ubuntuforums, I recently installed ubuntu 12.04 on my desktop, I started out with ubuntu 10.04 so gnome classic was the desktop environment of my choice, I dislike unity and gnome 3 isn't my cup of tea so to say.
After I installed a package called gnome-panel to enable gnome classic I went on to try to get my eyefinity setup to work, without success.

I simply want to make a link to a folder on the desktop.
I found these instructions:
sudo apt-get install --no-install-recommends gnome-panel
(which is not necessary since the Software centere shows gnome-panel as already installed)
Create new launcher
Open the terminal and run the following command

my Xorg hangs when i login to my user in gnome-classic(or shell) with desktop effects.
But when i start gnome-classic without desktop effects i can log in fine to the system
I am a average user of ubuntu
(have tried arch too but it is too much work. though arch documentation is excellent)
though gnome-classic (with effects) used to start some while ago...
