With the development of Linux distros like Ubuntu, Fedora ..., many people nowadays know about Linux as an operating system for personal computers, ie desktops and laptops. But when comparing to Windows or MacOS, the share of Linux in the market of operating system for personal computers is still very tiny. However, in the field of dedicated servers, Linux is the undisputed king.
Why I still prefer MS Windows over Ubuntu/Linux
an open letter to the Ubuntu/Linux community from an average user
Dear Ubuntu,
I'm an average user who doesnt have any special programming skills and/or knowledge in the OS area, but I'm still able to work my way and do what I have to do when I have to do it with computers.
Turn an aging computer into a kid-friendly machine that’s both educational and entertaining. Thanks to open source software there are a variety of complete operating systems designed to let you hand down computers to kids without worry.
Kids love to explore, and computers are a great opportunity for that.

There are literally hundreds of thousands of web hosting companies out there. Many of these companies offer both Windows hosting and Linux hosting plans. Windows plans usually cost more because of the license costs imposed by Microsoft. Knowing this, how can you know when you need Windows hosting and when Linux hosting will work just as well or better?
Technology's blazing fast progression in speed and other capabilities has left most of use buying new computers every 2-5 years. Although the price of computers seems to come down every year they still represent many hours of payed work for most of us. With this in mind I always first try to repurpose old computers by using them for a file/print server or router/NaT box for my home.
I love linux, and wished I'd used it years ago when I was learning computers. There is an unkown adventure when using opensource. You like creativity and innovation, you will like linux. Plus, it will teach you areas about computers and technology that some of the other popular OSs left out. I am sure you have heard the term, "one size does not fit all".

Hi
I'm completely new to Linux. A power Windows user, it-administrator of a School in Denmark, but with little experience in programming.
I've been trying out different Linux distros to see which of them fits my (and my Schools) need the most. At the moment I'm using Lubuntu 10.04 on a bunch of older computers.

Introduction
I have been using Microsoft Operating Systems since 1990, first exclusively, and later as a dual boot with Linux, I hope today to be the day I will finally be able to say "Good by for ever Windows, please stay out of my life".
