Does anyone have a solution to Windows 8/8.1 and first generation i5's like the 520m? My wife's old laptop finally started dying and I'm trying to replace it with an HP 8440p that has the Intel integrated graphics. Hey...
I am a msdn user and am trying to upgrade my laptop OS from Windows 8 to Windows Pro by going to Get more features with Windows 8 and trying to key in Windows 8.1 Pro N VL (x64) - DVD (English) product key obtained from there.
I keep getting the error - This key wont work, check it and try again.
What I have is a brand new laptop Inspiron 15R series.
My computer (ultraboook : HP Envy 4 ) wont find the bootable windows usb. Unless its a ubuntu usb it wont show in boot selection (F9). I installed ubnutu as the one and only OS, and now i want to install windows as the only OS. The only problm is that my computer wont boot from the bootable usb. I think it has something to do with the boot settings that ubuntu has made to my computer....
I want to get a new laptop. I have to decide on what I know doesn't rot (Windows 7) and the crappy on release, Windows 8.
I had a Windows 8 laptop when 8 was new and I hated it enough that when it died a few months later, I let it collect dust. I went bck to the 4 year old Windows 7 laptop and have no regrets in doing so.
My daughter is buying a computer for college. She's chosen to go with windows as opposed to mac. Fine. We'll be looking at Asus, Thinkpads, Dell and maybe Acer laptops. My wife bought a Asus laptop about two years ago and we had the guys at the box take all the adware and extra demo software off, and then make back up discs in case of future problems.
I have successfully duel booted Ubuntu on my windows 7 computer. But after i did this the windows 7 boot wont work it comes up with an error saying that the windows 7 boot-loader drive could be inaccessible.
Things you may wont to know.
