CyanogenMod 9 reaches RC2, now supports several Samsung Galaxy devices

Via their Open Source Release Center, Samsung has posted new updates to make open source files available for Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, and AT&T Galaxy Note II devices. The listings indicate these are files for Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on these devices.

It seems like only yesterday that the top of the line Samsung Galaxy S III smartphone was released. A timing problem existed with the release as the Galaxy S III came out close to the same time Google released Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. This meant the devices were initially delivered with Ice Cream Sandwich.

  In addition to the utter joy of the Jelly Bean update getting out to select Galaxy S III owners, Samsung has announced its latest roadmap highlighting which additional devices are slated for that buttery goodness.

Recent top-tier phones from Samsung have managed to propagate to major U.S. and international carriers while retaining their model names, like the Samsung Galaxy S III or the Samsung Galaxy Note II. As one moves down into the mid-tier range, we are starting to see carriers renaming Samsung devices to be more carrier specific.

Insider reports from Samsung indicate testing and preparations to rollout Android 4.1 Jelly Bean to their Samsung Galaxy S III devices are underway. No date has been established yet, but it is believed late August or early September is the target. The status of a Jelly Bean update for other devices is less clear.

In a joint announcement issued by AT&T and Samsung, the two shared information on some devices slated to be available “in the coming months” for AT&T’s 4G LTE network. The devices include three smartphones powered by Android and one tablet device. Headlining the list of forthcoming devices is the Samsung Galaxy Note II, the eagerly awaited for successor to the Samsung Galaxy Note.
