CUPS gives 'Unable to open the initial device, quitting' when printing to network printer

http://unix.stackexchange.com – I am trying to print (over Wi-Fi) to an HP Photosmart D110 printer (which is successfully recognized by CUPS). But I only get a sheet with the error message Unable to open the initial device, quitting. And in the CUPS interface it says Filter failed. At home I have an HP Photosmart C3100 that works correctly over USB, so I think CUPS is not the problem. I have tried to no avail: reinstalling cups/hplip pacman -S avahi nss-mdns (like proposed here) The full text of /var/log/cups/error_log is here. I'm running Arch Linux x86-64. What am I missing? Nothing earth-shattering but... I have an HP Photosmart USB printer that I configured with HPLIP (which seemingly "exports" into CUPS). All is well until the printer is turned off and then back on again sometime later: somebody, somewhere automagically adds the printer to CUPS so that I have two, count 'em, printers defined.

I do not have a solution to your problem but I would suggest to point a browser to 127.0.0.1:631 and configure CUPS from that. You will inteact directly with CUPS and it is better for debugging. Now can you see your printer from there?

I installed fedora 11 on this machine about 3 weeks ago. My printer, an HP Photosmart C4200, worked fine out of the box.

But I discover today that I cannot print anything. Not even a test page using CUPS (http://localhost:631/printers/). If I try to print something, it sits in the queue, but does not get printed.

I have Fedora 17, KDE. I open Printer Configuration and choose New Printer. I a CUPS server error, "There was an error during the CUPS operation: ' cups-authorization-canceled'. The printer is plugged in.

I previously added a Photosmart-C2400 sucessfully.

So I have an HP Photosmart c4483 and Ubuntu 9.04 on a Dell Inspiron e1405. Not only does the printer work incredibly slowly, but as of recently it fails to print in general giving me the Code: /usr/lib/cups/filter/footmatic-rip failed error. I use HPLIP. Any help?

After I updated to CUPS 1.6, I experienced the following problems:1. Hi I'm using a thermal printer tm-t20 at Ubuntu 12.04 x64. With cups 1.5.3-0ubuntu4 and the epson provided drivers tmt-cups-1.3.2.

The printer just prints garbage after the first print. If I turn it off and then on, it prints ok (the first Job), but if I send another job it prints just garbage.
