Copying a Back in Time backup to an NTFS partition

view story

http://askubuntu.com – Because I'm using a laptop, I've set up Back in Time to back up to a folder stored on my only hard disk, /backup. I'd like to once in a while copy that backup folder onto an external USB hard drive, formatted as an NTFS file system, replacing my previous copy of it. I think I read that Back in Time uses hard links and stuff to save space for files that haven't changed, so is it possible to copy the backup folder to an NTFS disk without messing it up? Would I be able to recover from that backup if I need to? (HowTos)
