Copying to any drive other than primary cannot complete, hangs/locks up

http://www.linuxquestions.org – This is a new issue for me. Whenever I try to copy any type of file to a connected drive (flash drive, internal secondary hard drive, whatever) it will not complete. Graphically I use nautilus for my file manager, drag and drop or ctrl+c ctrl+v produces a progress bar that winds up hanging up at the last few kilobytes and will not complete. I've let it sit for hours, when all it should need for the whole process is a few seconds (or minutes for larger files). Trying to cancel it doesn't do anything, force quit produces nothing, even 'pkill'ing the process doesn't cancel it. I can't even unmo (HowTos)
