When running Ubuntu 12.10 (or any os with a kernel 3.5 or greater, this problem also happens in Fedora) I encounter a kernel panic after compiling and installing the latest Ralink driver for the rt5390.
My laptop is an hp dv6.6135dx.
Here's what I do:
(this works perfectly in 12.04)
Download Ralink's latest driver and rename it.
Code:
tar xjvf rt.bz2.bz2
Edit /os/linux/config.mk to make
I purchased a WiFi adapter online, and it came with an installation CD with drivers. I installed it just fine on Windows, and am now trying on Ubuntu 10.10. The CD came with the driver files for Linux as well, but I have no idea why they aren't working - my guess is that I don't properly understand what to do with them.
I have uploaded the contents of the folder which came with the CD here.

I've been using Linux for a while, but haven't really done more than installed programs. I have Ubuntu 12.04 with an ATI Radeon 9200 graphics card. Ubuntu didn't recognize it during the install. All I want is a driver. Preferably the proprietary driver, but I'll settle for an open-source one if I need to.
I have a Trim-Slice Value using Ubuntu 11.04. It comes with a Ralink RT5370 802.11n WiFi dongle.
When I plug the dongle in, it does not 'just work'; ifconfig and iwconfig do not show the device, though lsusb does show the device listed:
phrogz@trimslice:~$ lsusb | grep Ralink
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 148f:5370 Ralink Technology, Corp.
I recently built a new computer and purchased a Zonet 1642S wireless card, the computer is dual boot with windows 7 and ubuntu 10.10, and I can't figure out how to install the driver on the ubuntu side. The chipset for the driver is a Ralink rt3062. I really need to get it working soon so if anyone could help i would really appreciate it!!
