Compiling 3.2 64b kernel on 12.04 freezes system

http://askubuntu.com – i was able to Compile 2.6 kernel on the same hardware but after upgrading from 10.04 to 12.04 Compilation causes the whole system to freeze and forces a hard reboot. trying to compile kernel with the following instructions: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Kernel/Compile/ the hardware: ASUS P8Z77-V LK motherboard (on board NIC and Vidio) Intel Core i7-3770S Ivy Bridge 3.1GHz CPU 8g of DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 memory Adaptec 6405T SCSI RAID controller. i wanna ask you for help to compile a very tiny kernel. I'm currently having a task at school that dictates that I must compile a kernel without modules, that can boot and is less than 10mb big. I've tried a load of stuff but I tend to kill modules I need and forget to bake the important options in to the kernel.

So I have a KVM machine, where I run an Ubuntu 12.04 (server edition). I want to compile a minimalistic kernel for the KVM guest, but I only found the howto for hosts, and guests with paravirtualization.

I want to compile a kernel for a guest. Nothing more. With only the things it needs.

Dear All, I hope you all are fine ad doing well,

I become successful to download kernel, compile it and run it.

BUT When i modify tcp.c file or any other file in this /usr/src/linux/net/ipv4 location, (just modifying c files) i have to compile the complete kernel every time, which is very time consuming procedure.

So Please help, How to compile that net/ipv4 package or etc...
