I am posting this here because I have a System 76 system, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't have anything to do with System 76. If I need to move this post please let me know.
So, I have a System 76 Wildebeest Performance desktop that I bought with a 2TB harddrive and an i7 processor and 8GB of memory. I have since added another 2TB harddrive (SATA) and an older 500GB harddrive (PATA).

If I had a small solid state drive (32 gigs or so) along with a much larger SATA drive, with Ubuntu installed on th SSD and /home on the SATA drive, would there be a significant speed increase? Will the time it takes to move data between the two hard drives cancel out any speed increase from the SSD? Thanks.
